The beach in the early morning is found crowded with native fishermen who rely completely on the sea for their living. Chanting and singing of these people in their local language along with the cadenced waves create a great acoustic treat for the visitors here. Hawa beach is separated from other beaches by the foreland of Edakkalu. From here, you can get the majestic view of sunset at its apex grace. After the sun sets, the calm cove of waters in the beach provides a visual charm of moonlit nights.
Though Kovalam can be visited at any time of the year,the best time to visit Kovalam is relative. It depends enterly on your purpose of visit. September to March is considered as the ideal time to visit Kovalam.

SIGHTS IN AND AROUND KOVALAM
THE LIGHT HOUSE
The the southern end of the Kovalam beach named as this hill house. The light house is thirty five meter in tall structure that is painted with red and white colorthat is easly visible from a long distance. It is open to visiters and offers spectacular views of the lighthouse beach, Eve’s beach and its surroundings.
A famous spot on the shore, Edakallu is placed right between the Hawah beach and the Lighthouse beach. It is a sunset seeing spot that is frequented by numerous shutterbugs and sight seers. The sunset witnessed here is a breathtaking sight like no other.
The Largest freshwater lake in Trivandrum, the Vellayani Lake is another amazing picnic spot in Kovalam. The water in the lake is amazingly calm and crystal clear. The lake is best viewed during a moonlit night or during the annual boat race during the festival of Onam.
Vizhinjam village should never be missed if you ever drop in to Kovalam. It is situated at a distance of nearly 3 km from Keral Ayurveda Yoga. This village which has a great deal of history to murmur is credited of having lots of dazzling places in Kovalam.Vizhinjam today is a busy port flooded with fishing boats and you can also see lots of fishermen venturing into the distant sea. The village which is rustic and earthy is very much different from Kovalam in diverse aspects. Here you can see the real life of fishermen who push their boats into the sea for fishing in dawn and reach back by dusk.
POOVAR BACKWATER CRUISE
Poovar is a small coastal village . This village is almost at the southern tip of Trivandrum . This village has a beautiful backwater which attracts tourists. Unspoiled and amazingly unexplored, Poovar is a rare location find in Southern Kovalam by the most tranquil backwaters and opening out to the Arabian sea. Poovar is truly a porthole into paradise.The area is plentiful in well preserved local plants with hundreds of species of spices, birds, exotic flowers, compliments with banana and coconut groves.
There are wide range of backwater cruises though the Neyyar Lake in Poovar.

The world’s richest temple ” Padmanabha Swami Temple ” is situated in Thriruvanathapuram city.
Neyyar Dam is a popular picnic spot near Kovalam, Kerala. It is within a distance of 30 Km from Kovalam.
Visit Lion Safari Park, Crocodile Park, Deer Park and boating through the Neyyar Dam Reservoir. It is good to book the lion safari seat in advance.
PONMUDI HILL STATION
Ponmudi is a breath-taking hill station situated at the southern stretch of Western Ghats. It is situated over 1,000 metres above sea level. It is close to about 60 kms from Kovalam. Ponmudi literally means “The Golden Crown” in Malayalam. Ponmudi is blessed with scenic splendour and natural beautyand has a carpet of thick tropical forest that rolls down to the foot of the hill range.
We would also recommend taking a day trip to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, where three major bodies of water meet – the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Kanyakumari is also home to the beautiful, pink Ghandi temple, which gives a history of Ghandi’s work and pays tribute to his life. It is also a bustling and interesting town to hang out in with its colourful markets, fortune tellers and many small shops selling intricately-made Indian artefacts.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial is one of the finest pieces of human endeavor at architecture in Kanyakumari. Situated on a rock island, Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a major tourist attraction in Kanyakumari and houses the statue of the great preacher Swami Vivekananda.
